Description

Buzzin wanted to revolutionise visitor management in response to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Their goal was to create a touchless access control system for buildings and estates, addressing the need for minimising physical contact and reducing the risk of virus transmission. The project aimed to provide a unique solution that enabled contactless tracking of visitors while ensuring ease of use and safety.

Challenge

The challenges in developing the Buzzin system were multifaceted. Implementing NFC technology for contactless door opening required overcoming obstacles in data transmission between iOS and Android devices. Creating a system that utilised short-period QR codes for building access presented another challenge, necessitating a solution that allowed secure and temporary access using mobile phones. A tracking algorithm capable of safely managing access, distinguishing between five types of entries, and integrating NDEF message algorithms for different card types further added complexity to the project.

Solutions

To address the challenges at hand, a comprehensive solution was developed, consisting of web and mobile applications ready for NFC and QR functionality. The system included a mobile app for tablet use at residential entrances, a web app with a management panel for property owners or managers, a web app for deliveries, an admin panel for data analysis and overall system management, and a web app for QR codes and self-check-in. The solution featured an algorithm that facilitated communication with NFC readers, ensuring secure and controlled access. The web applications allowed for user-friendly management and authorisation assignments for property owners and managers.

Impact

The Buzzin system, post-implementation, has proven to be a fully functional and scalable solution with a global user base. It revolutionises visitor access by providing a swift, contactless, and digital means of entry without the need for physical registration or plastic cards. The system has found utility not only in residential areas but also as an entrance monitoring solution for commercial buildings. With ongoing adjustments and the introduction of new functionalities, Buzzin continues to be a reliable and innovative solution, contributing to a safer and more efficient access control landscape. The success of the system has positioned Buzzin as a significant player in the visitor management domain.
